Family Weekend Sophomore Year

My family rolled into Furman Friday afternoon and chaos and fun soon followed ! The car was crammed full of bags, all my fall clothes, endless amounts of snacks, and 2 little brothers exploding out of the car.

Family weekend is one of my favorite weekends of the entire school year! I hadn't seen my brothers or parents since move in and I couldn’t wait to spend some time with all of them (and go out for a nice meal where I didn't’ have to pay!!)

Friday night I was inducted into Phi Eta Sigma, an academic honorary society. It meant so much that my parents could be there to cheer me on! After the ceremony, we grabbed a quick dinner at our restaurant on campus and quickly headed to the Soccer game so my brothers could see a Furman game! Nick, my middle brother plays soccer so that was on the top of our to-do list.

Saturday we woke up and all met up for brunch with a few of my close friends and their families. We ate at a big country ham house and I think I ate my weight in biscuits….you think I’m kidding.

My sweet sister and roommate, Emilee!

After brunch we continued our day of eating by making our way to the tridelt family tailgate. I got to meet everyone’s family and of course we had to take a million pictures. I ate my weight in food again. I have absolutely no doubt I gained 10 pounds this weekend.

btw I helped paint that banner with a few other girls on my hall, doesn't it look fabulous?

The tailgate ended right before the football game. After the game we were all sweaty and ready to change into fresh clothes so we ran back to the hotel so my family could change before making our way downtown to do a little shopping, eating, and ice cream!

Sunday morning we all met to go to church and have an early lunch before my family had to get back on the road and I had to get back to campus to get some homework done.

It was so much fun having them here for a few days and I’m already ready for fall break in 2 weeks to see them all again!

What did you do this weekend?

Giveaway! | Wooden 20" Monogram

Who doesn’t love a good monogram?!

After move in, when everything was all hung up and organized, we realized the space above my bed was really empty. It needed something. I reached out to our family friend, Meghan who makes so many amazing creative wooden creations to see if she would make me a monogram! I was so thrilled with how it turned out, that I asked Meghan if she would want to host a giveaway, and here we are!

We actually met Meghan’s family when they moved into the house across the street from us in North Carolina. I was only in 1st grade at the time and Meghan was in high school. I became the best of friends with her younger sister who was in 3rd grade and whose name was also Shannon! Meghan would babysit my brothers and I all the time and Shannon and I became practically inseparable. We stayed close family friends even when we left North Carolina and moved to Germany and continue to be close friends today! It’s crazy to think that I’m in college now and Meghan is married with the cutest little girl ever. It feels like just yesterday she was coming over to play games with us!

Meghan is so creative and I always wish I could be as crafty as she is.  You have to check out her etsy shop. I honestly cannot wait until I have an apartment of my own so I can decorate all my walls with her creations!

The space in-between my headboard and my ceiling is strangely small so typically Meghan suggests a 20 inch monogram above a twin size bed, but since my bed is up so high I only had room for a 15”! However, because most people don’t have their bed raised like they do in a dorm room we are giving away a 20” wooden monogram!

Busy busy bee

This week I feel like I’ve been running around like a chicken with my head cut off.

I have literally had something scheduled for what feels like every minute of every day this week; an Econ test, French test, and 2 big projects! I started to think I should be scheduling some time to breath.

Alas, I just turned in my Econ test about 30 minutes ago and luckily my French test was on Monday so I finally feel like I have some time to sit.

Throwback to this weekend! Friday night, my sorority hosted our first function of the year! It was downtown in a super cool loft with a live band and lots of swing dancing. I gave you all a little sneak peak in my post on Friday about the dress I was wearing, but here are some pictures from the event! I swapped out the jack rogers for my cowgirl boots, which by the way were so much fun to dance in! My dress was pretty puffy at the bottom so whenever I twirled it spun out really big!

I have to admit, if you had told me about swing dancing before my freshman year, I would have looked at you funny and laughed. I had never done it before coming to Furman, but quickly realized that I needed to learn since it is such a big part of so many functions. It may sound kinda lame, but let me be the first to tell you, IT’S SO MUCH FUN!

I took my good friend Emory and we had a blast dancing the night away. He’s a super good swing dancer so I’ve decided I need to practice a bit to get my skills up to his level. I loved being surrounded by all the girls in my sorority and spending my Friday night forgetting about everything I had coming up the following week.

Saturday, I allowed my self to sleep in a bit and then I had to be up and ready to go spend a few hours working in the admissions office. I honestly could talk to prospective students all day. Nothing compares to talking about something you love so much and convincing someone that they could love it too.

Sunday was study day. I had chapter Sunday night and another sorority meeting in the afternoon, but other than that I spent the majority of the day in a classroom studying French.  A bunch of my friends and I took a big study break for dinner and ordered Chinese and YouTubed funny videos as a way of procrastinating from all the studying we were all avoiding.

Since then, the week has been crazy and go go go. With family weekend this weekend (yay!!!) I’m now trying to get ahead on school work,  because I know I won’t have any time to study this weekend.

The school year is definitely picking up! The air is getting crisp and everyday I see a new tree starting to change colors.  I’m psyched to pull out my sweaters and bean boots, but at the same time, I’m longing for summer with no homework and the pages on my planner crisp and white with no events written anywhere!

Remember,

xoxo

Fun Business Attire Pieces

As many of you guys know, this summer I attended the Smart Girls conference. It was an amazing experience to be surrounded by so many passionate and driven girls. The dress code was business casual and day before we left I still hadn’t figured out what to wear. I was sending multiple pictures of outfit ideas to my friend Kelsey at midnight (bless her heart) because I was so stuck on what to wear. Business casual is hard, you don’t want to be boring and wear a gray pant suit, but you definitely don't want to go overboard. I think it’s important to show your personality while finding a balance and still looking professional.

With the school year now in full swing, there are so many interviews for clubs and even some college acceptances! I’ve come up with some good options for interview outfits or other occasions you need to look professional while still showing off your bubbly personality!
