So last Sunday my dad
and I took a surprise trip up to my favorite city (New York) to surprise my best friend who was also there on vacation. She lives in Hawaii and goes to school
in L.A. so we exactly don’t live close or go to school anywhere near each other. It’s
a rare occurrence that we’re even in the same time zone! There was no way I was
going to let her be that close to me and not see her. We usually see each other
every summer, this past summer she came and stayed with me and the year before that
I flew to Hawaii to visit her, however as we get older and start making more
summer plans it’s just getting harder and harder to find a time when we don't have anything planned.
We met in 8th
grade and since then there probably hasn’t been a day that we haven’t talked,
at least through text. We only went to school together for our 8th,
9th, and 10th grade years but we definitely haven’t let
that stop us! We’ve got the whole long distance thing down.
She had absolutely no idea we were coming and she was even
texting me that day telling me her plans while in NYC while I had been texting her
mom all day and knew I was going to be with her doing all of those things!
Every year since 8th grade we have always watched Eloise at
Christmas time together and even when we moved to opposite sides of the world
we continued the tradition by both watching it at the same time and skyping while we watch! So
in honor of our tradition her mom and I planned to surprise her in front of the
plaza before we went to go see the show Kinky Boots (which I highly recommend!!).
I was standing
outside casually with my dad and when she rounded the corner there I was
standing! Of course I made my dad get it
all on camera!
The next day we hit the
Met, Madison avenue, Chelsea Market, the tree in Rockefeller, and then we ended
the night by going to the Top of the Rock. That was my third time going to the
top and I definitely recommend it. That view never gets old!
Of course while on
Madison avenue, we couldn’t pass going to the Kate Spade store! If you look
closely you can see me and D on the balcony of the store!!
It was so special to
be in my favorite city with my favorite person! We definitely made some special
memoires and we’re already counting down the days until we can see each other
again! I think it's safe to say we were both ready to book a one way ticket to NYC after we left.
What was your favorite thing you did over break?
Remember,
xoxo

P.S. Don't forget about the huge Lilly Sale today! I snagged this tote as well as this jacket for a great deal!!
How fun that you were able to surprise your friend! I have yet to have made it to NYC but i'm hopeful that one day I will get to visit.
ReplyDeleteI'm living in Asia right now and we haven't finished our first semester of school. Still have two more weeks but when we do finally get a break I will be going to Thailand.

Love that you guys didn't let distance get in the way of your friendship.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in the military as well, so I appreciate your long distance friendship! Glad you got to see your best friend!
