I came back Furman
on yesterday (Thursday) however classes don’t start until Monday. I have
mixed feelings about being back. I’m super excited to see my friends and to be
back into somewhat of a schedule but I’m already dreading the stress that
school brings along with it. My classes this semester are challenging and for
some reason Spring semester always seems busier than fall semester (is that
even possible?)
I’m heading back to
school a few days early because we are staring our recruitment process on
Saturday. At Furman we have delayed rush, which means that we don’t rush until
2nd semester versus the traditional fall rush. It gives girls a full
semester to adjust to the rigor of college level work, make friends, and get to
know some of the sororities and upper classmen before making that big
commitment. This is the first year I’ll be on the other side of the whole
process. I’m realizing that both sides are stressful but for completely different
reasons. I remember the whole process a year ago like it was yesterday. Looking
back I couldn’t have been more happy with my decision. I have without a doubt
found my home on campus and found lifelong friends.
The process can be
overwhelming as a freshman. You don’t really know what to expect and most often
times there are unexpected bumps. It’s definitely not a very fun process,
however if you find the right fit I think it’s totally worth every second.
Although you can’t be ready for everything, one thing you can control is how
prepared you are. I had one bag that I carried to all the rounds with me and it
was a savoir. It stared out feeling like 50 pounds but by the last day I
learned what I really needed and what was just extra weight. I also suggest
packing it the night before so you don’t have to worry about running around
your dorm looking for things the morning of. Here are some of the essentials that were in
my bag!
What's in the bag?
- chapstick
- a tampon
- hair clip
- flats (to put on inbetween rounds)
- granola bar
- safety pins
- deodorant
- mints
- a phone charger
- mascara
- stain remover
At Furman they
offered us drinks in every round but if it’s different at your school I would
also suggest throwing in a bottle of water! Good luck if your school has second
semester rush too! Trust the system and remember that your first instinct is
usually right!
Remember,

This is such a good post! I recently did a post on tips for sorority recruitment! Flats or warm boots to put on in between rounds are essential! I wore warm boots and then left them in a bucket outside of the house designated for shoes and purses.

I really wish my school had sororities, I've always wanted to rush! These bag essentials are good to have anytime though! Great idea! :)
