Affordable & Adorable Silk Scarves

Affordable & Adorable Silk Scarves

I'm a big fan of the recent silk scarf trend. They look so cute paired with a simple shirt or a solid color dress. Scarves have always been one of my favorite fall and winter accessory but I love that silk scarves can work in the spring and summer.  However, my collection of silk scarves is limited to one scarf I got years ago so I thought it would be fun to order one or two to pair with my summer dresses.

However, every time I see cute scarf I like on blogger, they're a big designer name with a cost that's way out of my student budget. All of these adorable scarves are under $100 and are just as cute as some of those designer scarves!

All Things Royal Wedding

All Things Royal Wedding

Raise your hand if you fell even more in love with the royal family after this weekend. *meeee*

I woke up bright and early Saturday morning to watch the real life fairy tale take place. It was so magical and worth the early wake-up call. The only thing that I think could have made it better is if:
1. I was there to see it or catch a glimpse of the couple in person
2. Fresh English pastries and tea to enjoy while watching

All in all, it met every expectation. I spent the rest of my morning watching wedding videos and looking through dozens of Pinterest wedding boards. Anyone else?!

I thought I would round up all the fun articles I read about the wedding this weekend. My best friend and my mom were equally as obsessed with the event and we were all exchanging fun facts and articles all day. Here were some of my favorites in case you missed the big event:

My favorite photo from the wedding! Read the back story here!

1. Meghan Markle Wore $8 Nail Polish (that I already own!!!)
2. What it was like to be outside of the Windsor gates
3. Best Dressed Guests
4. This was one of my favorite guest's look!
5. 16 Things you didn't know about the dress until now
6. Their wedding cake! Curious about the flavor now...
7. Even the getaway car's license plate had meaning!
8. Wow! The resemblance between these two dresses is quite interesting!
9. The Bride and Groom's second look of the day.
10 Hours after the wedding Meghan Markle was officially on the fam website!
11. Where all their flowers went after the wedding

FriYAY!

FriYAY!

Okay, who else out there is freaking out about the Royal wedding?! I am totally planning on waking up so I can watch the ceremony live. I cannot wait to see the dress and little Charlotte and George. Maybe Charlotte will give us a little wave like she did when she went to go meet her new little brother.

The countdown is down to 2 weeks until school ends and slightly over 3 until I begin my summer in the Pink Palace! There is so much happening within the next three weeks though that I'm beginning to get slightly overwhelmed by it all. Between my youngest brother's high school graduation, finals, a wedding, and packing up for the entire summer in Philly, I have a lot of big events in the next few weeks. Exciting (well all of them except for finals) but stressful!

Emory spent last weekend in Savannah with me and we had a blast. We spent one evening on Tybee beach and brought a picnic dinner and then spent a full day on Hilton Head Island. Both were perfect (but hot) days. It felt so much like summer! Until of course I heard that 6am alarm Monday morning.

On my radar...

1. Did you hear Backstreet Boys new song they released this week?!

2. Did you see Julia's new May dresses?! I love this one, and I'm still thinking about grabbing this one from the April collection.

3. Chip and Jo's first flip since the end of Fixer Upper just hit the market, and it's so adorable, like always.

4. If you want all the updates on the Royal Wedding, make sure you're following this account.

5. Documentaries worth watching to add to your summer to-do list.

6. Obsessed with these shorts.

Happy Friday! Remember,

Target Finds You Can't Resist

Target Finds You Can't Resist

I think I'm really a suburban house mom at heart. Nothing gets me excited like a trip to target and a stroll through their dollar section. Anyone else?!

While at Furman, the closest Target was on the complete opposite side of Greenville. It was about a 20-25 minute drive so I couldn't go as likely as I would have wanted. Now living in Savannah, I live in the heart of the historic district, which is beyond convenient for my classes, however, the closest Target once again is at least 20 minutes away. While my credit card is rather happy, I would prefer one much closer.

I have decided that when I start looking for a job after graduation, a Target within close proximity will be high on the priority list...too much?

Yesterday, while trying to get my Target fill without driving 25 minutes, I spent entirely too long on the website. Seriously so great summer finds!!

What's your fav? That khaki coat though.

Newest Arrivals

Newest Arrivals

Does anyone else add tons of things to their shopping cart on multiple websites and then never pull the trigger? Me...all the time.

I find cute stuff online (mostly when I'm procrastinating) and keep the tab open for weeks and then one day I finally come to the realization that I'm either never going to buy what's in my cart or they have run out of my size, whichever comes first, then I finally close the tab.

Spring/ Summer season comes around though and every year and my love for shopping nearly multiplies by 20 (is that even possible?!). So many cute dresses. So many cute skirts. And I just can't help myself.

Many of my favorite brands have been releasing their summer lines recently and instead of emptying my savings to buy all of the new arrivals I thought I would share my favorites with you all!

FriYAY!

FriYAY!

The weather has been in the 80s all week long (it's even going up into the 90s this weekend!) and I'm having a harder and harder time focusing on school work when all I want to do is be outside! While I would prefer the warmth over the cold anyday it's really making it hard to be productive. Anyone else have that problem?!

This week was a total catch up week. I put off so many little things over the past two weeks while I was working on my proposal so I spent a lot of the past few days checking off small things that had been on my to-do list for weeks.

This weekend I have slightly less homework than usual, the calm before the storm (aka finals) I guess, so I think I'm going to take advantage of it and possibly take a day trip to Hilton Head or Tybee! SCAD has its annual sand art competition on Tybee and apparently it's a can't miss event!

On my radar:

1. The Gal Meets Glam May collection is coming out next week and I can't wait to see what Julia has come up with!2. Anyone else have a countdown to the Royal Wedding. Here's how you can watch it!3. I think these shorts are the cutest, and under $70!4. Did you catch my summer 2018 plans yesterday?! I still can't believe it's real!
5. Obsessed with this wicker backpack.
6. The absolute sweetest
7. How cute are these earrings for the summer? And under $15!!

My 2018 Summer Plans...

My 2018 Summer Plans...

Yesterday on the way back from a field trip, a group of girls from my class and one of our professors started talking about the reputation of the fashion industry and how it's so much more than most assume. The clothing industry today is one of the largest industries around the world and there's so much more to it than pretty dresses.

During my undergrad years, I was always hesitant to say that I wanted to work in the fashion industry when people inquired about my future plans. Instead I would say marketing or communications and then occasionally quickly add on "possibly for a clothing company." It also seemed so silly sounding especially in relation to all my friends and roommates who were all Political Science majors with a Poverty Studies minor or a Chemistry major on the pre med track.

I always felt like it sounded so much less prestigious. Instead I felt like I just sounded like a silly girl who had unrealistic expectations of working in the fashion industry just like every other teenager.

But what I've realized after 8 months into my Luxury and Fashion Management Masters program is that there are so many facets of the fashion industry that make it just as impactful and important as someone working in another industry.

Today when I try to describe my masters program I always say it's like getting an MBA for the fashion industry. I've taken a finance class, a supply chain management class, and multiple marketing and advertising classes, all specifically related to the fashion industry.

While my classes have been some of the most challenging classes I've taken, I've learned so much about the fashion industry and the business aspect that I'm now confident there's a place for me somewhere inside of the that big, intimidating, industry.

...

I've worked a lot of different internships. Some I've LOVED and others...I didn't love so much. Through all of them though I learned how much I value company culture. While the tasks I spent my  time on mattered, I realized the people I worked with mattered way more.

During some of my internships in the fashion industry girls would literally scream at each other in the office over responsibilities or who did what wrong. Or employees would pretend like I simply did not exist and would ignore my casual "good morning" as they walked by my desk every day. It was so uncomfortable and just an environment I did not feel comfortable or confident in.

But despite the fact the fashion industry is known for it's stuck up, rich, bitc**y girls, I knew that there had to be companies out there that served as contradictories to these stereotypes and a place where I would fit in.

...

Enter: Lilly Pulitzer

"The" dream company since...well for as long as I can remember. I vividly recall how excited I was about graduating high school just because I was finally old enough to apply to the internships of some of my dream companies. Freshman year I even remember sitting in my dorm room when Lilly had a little competition to submit your phone number and every night, they would pick one person at random to call for an on the spot interview. Despite my persistence the phone call never came.

But I continued to apply online to their Creative Communications internship every single year. And every year something else fell into place. But I never really gave up hope.

Once again, this past fall rolls around and I see the announcement that Lilly has posted their internship positions again. I wasn't sure what to do. Having completed 4 previous internships, I really thought that this summer I would stay in Savannah, have a relaxed summer, and just focus on the class I will be taking. I really thought I was done being an intern and thought maybe it was time to start focusing on my job hunt (since I'll be graduating in November).

But I threw in the towel and thought "what the heck" I might as well at least apply. Well 5 months and a few interviews later I was riding my bike to school to have a meeting with my professor when the phone call came. I saw a Philadelphia area code pop up on the screen and scrambled to park my bike and catch my breath before answering. I had gotten the internship.

Summer after summer of applying and I finally got the internship I had always been wanting.

While I really wasn't planning on adding another internship to my resume this was too good too pass up and totally a dream come true. God always has a funny way of surprising you with his timing. And after a really challenging and rough first 7 months of grad school this internship makes summer sound even better.

I can't wait to share more about my summer in the Pink Palace with you!

I have a feeling Lilly Pulitzer will be exactly the kind of fashion company that I've been looking for all along.

A Life Update (Finally)

A Life Update (Finally)

I honestly can't even remember the last time I took two weeks off of blogging. It definitely wasn't planned and just kind of happened. I'm blaming grad school.

The last two weeks I felt like I was in complete survival mode. Living day by day, minute by minute, and deadline by deadline just trying to keep my head above the water during a hurricane. It kind of felt like a never-ending finals season (except it wasn't even finals!). Lots of ice cream was involved to help me get through.

The GREAT news though is that I'M BACK and luckily these next few weeks should be significantly lighter workload wise than the last few. Plus I have a pretty exciting (yet busy) summer waiting for me after these last few weeks of school!

So where have I been the past two weeks? Well mostly sitting at my kitchen counter doing homework. But I thought it would be fun to share a few iphone snaps from the past few weeks to get you caught up on my life.

On the April 23rd I turned 23! My mom was the sweetest and drove down from Raleigh the day of to celebrate with me. She brought me a sugar cookie cake (a dream for a girl that doesn't like chocolate) and fun balloons! Unfortunately, it absolutely poured rain the whole day (just like last year on my birthday!) and it was also during a super stressful week so we didn't do anything too exciting besides cake, ice cream and a yummy homemade dinner.

I shared this quick snap on Instagram but I felt like this picture was a good depiction of my quarter/semester in general. I generally try to straighten up my counter/ apt before going to bed every night and if I remember correctly, this night I simply turned off the lights and tackled that large mess in the morning.

Spring in Savannah...nothing compares! Spring is my favorite season no matter where I am but spring in Savannah is pretty exceptional. I hate that I've been spending so much time working inside, I feel like I've been missing out on my favorite time of year. Luckily I live just blocks away from Forsyth Park so I take every chance I can to go on a walk through the park. I also ride my bike to and from class every day (aka my activity of day) and get to admire all of the cute Savannah houses, like this adorable pink and green one!

One of the most stressful things that happened during the past two weeks (well last Thursday to be exact) was the presentation of my final project thesis. I think I was more nervous for this presentation than any other presentation I've ever given. To give you a bit of context, I had to present my proposal to a panel of professors during a 20-minute presentation that was followed by a q&a session. After your presentation, the panel has you leave the room while they discuss if you have been approved to start your final project the following quarter (the fall). And then finally, what feels like hours later, one of the professor comes out and lets you know if you've passed. AND I DID. I thought I was just going to start sobbing tears of happiness when I hear those words. So now I will officially be working on my final project in the fall and will graduate in November of 2018 with my Masters in Luxury and Fashion Management. I was on CLOUD NINE. I also felt a huge sigh of relief.

On Monday night my Fashion Promotion class group shot our mock ad. It's a huge project that we've been planning since March. It was slightly stressful but luckily everything worked out and the hard part is now done! It was a huge undertaking as we were in charge of recruiting and managing a whole team of actors/ actresses/, extras, a cinematographer, producer, director, storyboard artists, gaffer (a lighting person), photographers, and a music person. It was quite an undertaking but I'm really excited to see how it turns out! Maybe I'll share the final ad here :) Here is a little behind the scenes shot I took. It took 8 hours of setting up and working but it was a huge check mark!

So that's what I've been up to the last two weeks. Mostly all school/ homework related so not the most fun but stay tuned for some super fun posts ahead because like I said I'M BACK BACK BACK AGAIN. Thanks for sticking around.

Remember,

xoxo
